Editor | Tell us about your journey. how did it all start?
I am a hotel management graduate from IHM Aurangabad but never worked in the hotel industry as I went on to complete my MBA. Post competition of MBA I started my career with DLF Ltd. I have also worked in global organizations like BNP Paribas and Jones Lang Lasalle. My latest assignment is with Narayani Heights where in I am looking after HR and training & development.
Editor | What do you think it takes to succeed in this industry?
Well the most important factor is to understand the company culture and adjust according to it.
Editor | What are the attributes you look for while selecting or hiring?
As mentioned in the previous answer, I look at someone who would be able to fit into the organization. An individual might have the best education and excellent work experience. But all this is irrelevant if he or she does not fit into the company culture. Hence it is imperative for the hr professional to be able to judge this quality in a prospective candidate.
Editor | What according to you can trainees do while they are training at hotels to make it a win-win for them & the hotel/unit?
I have noticed that often trainees at the start of their training period have pre conceived notions (positive and negative) about the kind of work they would be required to do. This basically creates a barrier in their mind and restricts them from accepting additional roles and responsibilities. Therefore a trainee should start with a clear mind and grab all opportunities thrown at them with both hands. This is a period where one is starting to build ones learning curve so obviously there has to be a great start.
Editor | Tell us a little about your average day
I start my day with checking my “things to do” list which I normally prepare before leaving office the previous day. This is followed by the morning meeting. As a practice I like to complete tasks with turnaround time in mind and strictly adhere to it. Being in the HR domain it is essential that I connect with all employees. Even though I have a busy schedule I try maintain a healthy work life balance.
